Orson Scott Card on New Moon:

"And at the end, Bella actually shows some spunk. There is a memorable scene between her and werewolf boy in which she is needlessly vicious to someone who has done her nothing but good -- she wouldn't be Bella if she had a spark of human compassion or feeling for any person other than herself and her alpha-male Edward. But at least she shows a little fire instead of mere leaden depression."

Tammy and I were having a discussion about Bella from the revolting Twilight series, which wouldn't be half as revolting if not for this character.  She is possibly the most selfish protagonist to have ever existed in a widely accepted fictional series who's selfishness is never labelled as a problem.  In fact, it's romanticized.

Is it a stretch to say Twilght is as Bad For America as "Health Care Reform?"

Now that I've managed to push some buttons.... :)

Christmas lights [Dec. 19th, 2009|02:58 pm]

I drive past lit houses and am reminded of Christmas...there's something about seeing a tree's image framed to be seen at night time... The 30 lined-up soldier boys are sort of frightening in an eerie way and the blown up Santas and manger scenes along with the 70 other air blown up things and exageration of lights that make it look too busy and stupid, if you ask me. All the same, I love it! I love that people are excited and rejoiceful together!

I always imagine those weird people, with no spatial reasoning or ability to understand the beauty of simplicity putting all their 'cute' decorations outside. They just have to fill up every space so that everything lights up. I think its silly and cute!

And then there are those houses that take your breath away. Those decorations that really know how to capture your attention without all the blown up snowmen and overdriven lights.

...I love it when you drive downtown and all the buildings are alit and framed so that it seems almost as if you're in a different world.

This is the MOST BEAUTIFUL rendition of "O Holy Night" I have ever heard....I seriously cried listening to it. It's always been my favorite Christmas song, but I never thought it could be done so amazingly well!! Listen to the whole thing; his voice at 2:17 is just like....WHAM! I can't even believe it. I mean, wow.

The slideshow is of "sketchy santas" lol....doesn't really fit if you ask me...but some of the pictures are pretty good :)
